Store to Door
Mission
Store to Door supports independent living for homebound, predominantly low-income seniors and adults living with disabilities in the Portland Metro area by providing food access, food security, social connection, and community support.
Bottom Line for Portland
Store to Door provides customized deliveries of groceries, medications, and other essential household items to homebound seniors and people living with disabilities who cannot shop on their own; 88% of our 760 annual clients live alone, 70% have low incomes, and many have limited or no social support.
Thanks to 1250 annual volunteers giving 20,000 hours of service, we prioritize social connection by providing consistent order-takers and delivery drivers who regularly check on clients’ well-being along with maintaining roughly 100 weekly chats through our Friendly Caller program that provides additional touchpoints to help us monitor clients’ needs and provide referrals to additional services and community support, along with a vital food box delivery program to provide for those experiencing the most need.
With 30+ partnerships, S2D’s referral system helps clients access low or no-cost physical and social support that is essential for seniors to maintain independence, connectivity, and delay premature and expensive institutional living.
Quote
“My sisters…and I would really be struggling without your help. We don’t have a computer, or smart phones. We are in our nineties. Believe me, old age is not for sissies. We are very thankful for all our blessings and thankful for all of you.” – Store to Door Client
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Store to Door recognizes that systemic injustices such as racism, ageism, ableism, and sexism exist and that they create and perpetuate conditions of hunger, loneliness and institutionalization among the elderly and disabled. Store to Door continues to prioritize client outreach to historically marginalized communities to bring food access, food security, and community connection and support to those experiencing the most need.
Informed by the voices of historically marginalized communities, Store to Door will make information accessible about the diverse and intersectional challenges and processes of aging while continually evolving to develop data collection and evaluation systems that accurately describe and report on the intersectional diversity of the clients we serve as well as our volunteers, staff, Board, and donor base.
Store to door’s 3-year strategic plan includes building ongoing educational opportunities for the Board, staff, and volunteers to expand knowledge and skills in adapting programs to be more culturally responsible and accessible to clients while annually assessing progress toward program-level equity markers.
