Third Angle New Music
Mission
Third Angle New Music’s mission is to perform, present, and record adventurous contemporary sonic works while commissioning new works from a diverse spectrum of composers.
Bottom Line for Portland
We connect Portland listeners with their environment through site-specific sonic experiences performed by our own ensemble.
We present local, national and international guest artists at a wide range of moments in their careers, providing them a platform to connect with our community.
We collaborate with a diverse spectrum of composers and artists, commissioning them to create new works that create a soundtrack for our time.
Quote
In a review of a 2023 performance, “It all felt very intimate, and yet at times almost as if there weren’t an audience. There was a fourth wall there, but it was a selectively permeable membrane.”
– Lorin Wilkerson, Oregon Artswatch
“I loved the way the environment and music interacted to create an immersive experience.”
– Audience member, 1000 Airplanes on the Roof
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We prioritize programming and commissioning music by women/non-binary and BIPOC composers to highlight voices to reflect the true diversity and vitality of new music.
Through our Access 3A initiative we address the need for more accessible arts opportunities for adults experiencing disability. In the first year of this program, the audience members who identify as living with a disability more than doubled.
As a way to diversify the curatorial voices that develop our programming, we have created a Guest Creative Director program that invites an artist to program one of our large shows each season.
