Mission

Our mission is to promote social justice by eliminating sexual violence in our community through education, support, and advocacy.

SARC-Oregon supports adults and teens impacted by sexual violence through direct services like 24/7 emotional support, information and resources, in-person hospital accompaniment advocacy, on-going case management, warm referrals to collaborative community partners, housing advocacy and financial support, and no-cost individual and groups mental health and healing services. Our services are confidential. We affirm every survivor’s choice throughout the process after an assault. Our work centers on and advances social equity and inclusion to empower historically marginalized communities most impacted by sexual violence and oppression. Through community-based case management and mental health work, SARC provided 3,814 support and healing services to 328 people in 2022, and provided 2,697 crisis support services through the 24/7 support line and in-person hospital response. 

SARC supports comprehensive primary prevention efforts with high school teens through a multi-session healthy sexual relationships curriculum, Beyond!Consent: Healthy Teen Relationships aimed at building positive social norms to dismantle oppression, providing positive frameworks for healthy and empowering relationships that honor and support a future free of sexual violence. On average, more than 5,000 high school aged youth experience the B!C healthy relationships curriculum each year across the Portland metro area and Oregon. 

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

SARC recognizes that sexual assault can and does happen to anyone, however, members of historically marginalized and oppressed communities are more likely to be affected by sexual violence, and to experience barriers to accessing services. Therefore, we intentionally explore the organization’s position in a culture impacted by white supremacy to ensure that our approach is ever-changing and flexible to lift up social equity and authentic access to resources, especially for communities often farthest from those resources. 

We hold three core values of our service provision that call us to prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion in all of the work with which we engage: 1) Trauma-Informed Practice, 2) Racial and Social Justice, and 3) Accessibility. These values guide the work of the organization.

Java Man on Broadway, a cozy, locally owned coffee shop located on Broadway in Portland, and a supporter of SARC’s mission is offering a $10 gift card to the first 50 donors who give $100 or more to SARC during Give!Guide 2023. 

ECHO Natural Beauty in the Pearl District, and supporter of SARC’s mission is offering a $20 gift card to donors who give $100 or more to SARC during Give!Guide 2023. ECHO Natural Beauty will also be running a SARC promotion day where 10% of all proceeds are donated to SARC (date TBD) during G!G 2023.

Adelshiem Winery is Chehalem Mountains first winery, located in Newberg, Oregon and will be offering a complimentary wine tasting for two at the vineyard to the first 30 who donate $100 or more. 

ACM Business Services is locally owned and operated by accountant Alan Marcoff, a dear and long-time supporter of SARC and family member of our Board Chair. ACM Business Services is supporting SARC by paying the G!G 2023 participation fee this year. 

Eastside Coffee and Workspace, in the Buckman neighborhood, is all about community, creativity, and conversation and believes in collaboration in their space. They are providing space at the coffee shop for SARC to engage with the community and share our mission (date TBD) during G!G 2023.
