Project Access NOW
Mission
Project Access NOW is dedicated to improving our communities’ health and well-being by creating access to care, services, and resources for those in need.
Bottom Line for Portland
Our programs act as “the safety net to the safety net,” filling in the gaps in our broken health care system while simultaneously advocating for a more just structure that truly supports health equity. When individuals receive culturally-responsive preventative care, ongoing treatment for a chronic condition, or support staying housed, they stay healthier. Avoiding emergency room visits or worsening conditions means better, more affordable, more efficient health care for us all.
Quote
“Project Access NOW has been a safety net for me as I’ve struggled through a job injury and lost work in the meantime. Without Project Access NOW’s crucial assistance, I just wouldn’t have been able to afford my health insurance. I feel deeply indebted to the organization for making such a valuable difference in my life in recent years.” - Manuel, Project Access NOW client
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
A diverse, supported workforce is at the center of Project Access NOW’s core values of collaboration; community engagement; inclusion, equity, and diversity; innovation; respect; and social justice. Our clients and staff largely identify as BIPOC, non-native English speakers, LGBTQIA+ and/or immigrants or refugees. Over the past few years, staff and board have worked with a variety of partners to comprehensively assess internal processes and build a staff-run Racial Equity Committee that looks at many facets of the organization’s operations from hiring and recruitment to outreach, translation, and centering a place of belonging for staff and clients.
