Oregon Wild's mission is to protect and restore Oregon's wildlands, wildlife, and waters as an enduring legacy for future generations.

Bottom Line for Portland

We work to protect the wild places that Portlanders depend on for clean drinking water, outdoor recreation, critical wildlife habitat, and defense against climate change.

Building off past victories to protect Portland’s drinking water source and 200,000+ acres of new Wilderness (the majority of which encompass Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge), we're working to advance sweeping new protections for 3,000+ miles of Oregon's rivers and are leading a national coalition to protect Oregon's mature and old-growth forests for the immense climate benefits they provide.

We actively work to protect and defend the forests across Oregon and the PNW that offer tremendous cultural value to indigenous peoples and outdoor recreation opportunities to nature enthusiasts.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Oregon Wild’s deep commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion is a central component of our strategic plan and is integrated into each and every one of our conservation campaigns. To push back against hate, Oregon Wild and partners released the Smokescreen report to expose the alarming ties between the pro-logging, industry-funded group Timber Unity and factions of far-right extremism, including white supremacists, Proud Boys, and QAnon conspiracy theorists. We’ve launched our Systemic Racism in the Outdoors webcast series to elevate the voices of BIPOC experts and highlight the need to address racism on public lands and are partnering on a variety of conservation efforts with Oregon tribes, such as the Nez Perce.

Oregon Wild partnered with the Portland Street Art Alliance to create a beautiful mural in NW Portland to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act and native keystone species like salmon and wolves.
