Neighborhood House
Mission
Our mission: We connect neighbors, build community and improve lives
Bottom Line for Portland
Our Vision: Every neighbor has the community and support they need to thrive
How we carry out our mission:
CONNECT NEIGHBORS We collaboratively support connection across generations and differences. | IMPROVE LIVES We provide client-centered services and advocacy to promote resiliency and achieve equitable outcomes. | BUILD COMMUNITY We support interdependent learning and growth among neighbors. |
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
As we reflect on our responsibility as an anti-poverty organization, created over 100 years ago to serve new immigrants to Portland, it is clear to us that providing services alone is not enough. We must create an environment that respects the value and dignity of all members of our community: the people we serve, our volunteers, our staff, our board, and our partners. We must be a learning organization prepared to transform practices, policies and programs that have unintentionally perpetuated structural racism and inequities. We recognize that racism is a public health crisis, and we commit to building an anti-racist organization. We recognize that we are early in our journey. We must engage in action and advocacy, working alongside our partners to dismantle the systems that result in disparities in housing security, access to education, food security, employment, wealth building, and health outcomes.
