Kinship House

Mission

Kinship House provides therapy and advocacy for children in Oregon who are experiencing foster care and adoption. We support them as they work through trauma, connect with safe adults, and build stable futures.

Bottom Line for Portland

We envision a future where each child in foster care is equipped with not only the mental health treatment they need, but a supportive, stable family with whom they can grow into adulthood. Our 13-person team of professional child & family therapists provide play and whole-family therapy services so children can heal from traumatic experiences and build stability, regardless of their ability to pay or insurance status. Last year, 92% of children improved or maintained progress toward their mental health wellbeing

Quote

Every day, we see children making incredible strides in their healing, ability to trust, and overall mental health. While we’d love for you to see that impact in the form of a quote, the truth is the majority of the kids we serve are too young to give consent. Thank you for understanding the importance of supporting kids in foster care.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Like the population in foster care, Kinship House’s staff is diverse and places great value on accessibility and inclusion.

  • - 20% of staff have personal experience with the foster care system, 18% identify as POC, and 20% as LGBTQIA+
  • - Therapists receive regular trainings around cultural responsiveness, especially in the form of cross-racial adoptions
  • - Clients are able to access services regardless of ability to pay: 98% are enrolled in Medicaid Health Programs

Partner(s)

We're incredibly proud to be partnering with our friends at Phil’s Meat Market & Delicatessen, who have been among our biggest supporters for our events, such as our summer concerts and Kinship Tables in May, when we partner with local restaurants in honor of Foster Care Awareness Month.

As two organizations working to support and advocate for children in foster care, Kinship House and CASA for Children are partnering to share our work and passion with more people in our community.
