Kindness Farm

Mission

All people have inherent equal value, and all poverty deserves to be alleviated. Within those experiencing food insecurity in Portland, some groups face additional systemic barriers to accessing fresh, healthy food consistently. Our work prioritizes serving youth and families within these groups which include black, indigenous, & people of color, immigrants, refugees, & queer folx. In partnership with other amazing nonprofits working on food security here in Portland, we fill a much needed gap in our community. 

We donate 100% of what we grow because we believe it’s imperative that those most vulnerable amongst us have no barriers to access this food. We’re able to provide a consistent source of needed nutrition through all four seasons in the form of meals & produce boxes. We regularly receive feedback on the significant impact of having consistent, fresh produce for our served populations, and we are humbled and grateful to be able to fill this role. 

Every aspect of Kindness Farm’s mission and impact is circular and heals: by farming regeneratively & sustainably we heal the land; by tending & caring for the land we heal ourselves & strengthen our community; by harvesting from the land we heal the inequitable access to fresh food. Additionally, by providing extensive education, we empower our community to reconnect with the land and learn to grow their own food.

Healthy food in the hands of those who need it most while nurturing a resilient, active community that shows up for one another. In the last 2 years, our produce has contributed to close to 30,000 meals & produce boxes, engaging close to 10,000 volunteer hours, & we've helped close to 500 individuals learn how to grow their own food.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

In starting Kindness Farm a focus on equity was imperative to our work not only because of how crucial it is to the health of our community, but also personally to our founder and their experience as a queer immigrant to two different countries. Our aim at the farm is to create a platform for marginalized members of our community where everybody has a voice and feels supported and at home. As an organization, we feel that diversity and equity is something we can never do enough of, and we are constantly working on improving that facet of our organization, seeking feedback for growth, and finding more ways to do that.
