Friends of Noise

OCT Qualified
BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

Friends of Noise is an organization built on the values of collectivism and restorative justice. We seek to transform the culture of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth access to the music industry. We foster a healthy ecosystem for all ages to thrive by meeting young people where they are and by facilitating opportunities for immersion into a safer arts community while uplifting youth voices.

Bottom Line for Portland

Our programs empower youth to contribute to our local music scene long before they are 21. It's our goal to build an inclusive all ages community arts center that will increase our capacity to guide, uplift, and provide paid work for youth.  With your help our future home will be a beacon of multicultural and multi-generational self expression and workforce development for the entire region.

Quote

Prior to my involvement with FoN, I had very limited experience in anything relating to the workings of the music industry, but now I am completely immersed. My experience as a performer began with FoN, Andre was key in teaching me the inner workings. I was taught how to send an invoice to clients, create a stage plot, and control a crowd while performing. After a year of performing, I joined the Sound Squad (a team of paid teen sound engineers) and while I've been participating I've learned everything about how to run a show: from wrapping cables and routing monitors, to running sound and mixing for bands. -Hayden, youth musician and sound engineer

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Diversity of artists, music genres and audience members makes for a safer, more vibrant and more open all ages music scene. When Hip Hop is on the same lineup as Rock, cool things happen. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion means that we strive to make everyone feel welcome and needed in our music scene. We see diversity not as a task to be achieved but as a feature that draws in like-minded people of all ages.
