Family Promise of Tualatin Valley
Mission
The mission of Family Promise of Tualatin Valley (FPTV) is to equip vulnerable families and individuals to end the cycle of homelessness through a community based response.
Bottom Line for Portland
Family homeless is often a hidden issue, with families sleeping in cars or doubled up. In 2023, FPTV provided 28,369 bed nights of shelter, over 73,000 meals and 78% of our households transitioned into stable housing! Additionally we helped another 481 individuals keep their existing housing.
Quote
One of our program participants shared “After I entered shelter, I was able to get back to work, raise my credit score, make a budget, and plan ahead for rent payments. The weekly food delivery made it easy for me to focus on work and finding an apartment within my budget. The weekly case management sessions kept me accountable to my to-do list each week. FPTV made it easy for me to ask for help.”
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
While anybody can be in danger of losing their home, we know that homelessness disproportionately impacts Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) members of our community. This is not an accident—rather, it is the direct result of state and national policies endorsing systemic racism and discrimination. While the root causes of these inequities and injustices are multifaceted, homelessness and wealth disparities in our community result from systems of discrimination against BIPOC members of our community, not from individual shortcomings.
