Familias en Acción

New
BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

Strengthen the health and well-being of Latino families and communities in Oregon.

Bottom Line for Portland

At Familias en Acción (Familias), we empower Latino/x/é communities to not only survive, but thrive through our culturally specific health promotion programs. We help families prepare for the impacts of climate change, offer nutrition and food advocacy resources, teach about sexual health and HIV prevention, bridge gaps in care through healthcare navigation, and provide workforce development for Latino/x/é Community Health Workers. Our Promise is to be Present, to Engage, and to be Relentless in the pursuit of health equity.

Quote

“The programs at Familias en Acción have helped me so much to improve my physical and mental health. I live in a rural area where health resources are very limited and programs like these, free and in our primary language (Spanish), have a great impact on our community. They give us hope and motivation to know that we are not alone and that there is support in our own language.”

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Familias, we are dedicated to reducing the exclusion of underrepresented and marginalized Latino/x/é communities from economic, health, and social equity. At a systems level, we advocate to promote equity, inclusion, and justice within Oregon’s healthcare delivery by supporting Spanish-speaking families to navigate the complex health system, providing workforce development opportunities to advance the economic stability of Community Health Workers, and offering culturally specific health education and training to eliminate barriers.
