Echo Theater Company
Mission
To help people of all abilities discover their potential and embrace their humanity through movement, aerial arts and ensemble theater.
Bottom Line for Portland
Echo's Outreach Programming serves K-12 students living with low incomes, people from BIPOC communities, and people who have disabilities; often traveling off-site to deliver free programming for underserved communities. Through teaching such physical skills as juggling, stilt-walking, tumbling and trapeze, Echo empowers students to take supported risks, build trust, collaborate & build such essential life skills as confidence & teamwork. These funds pay our instructors to do this work.
Quote
“Echo Theater has been graciously and faithfully coming to campus and working weekly with some of our most challenged and challenging kids for over five years now—even through the pandemic! I have seen the fun and growth in so many children as they experience movement in such an exciting inspiring new way.”
- Dave Jeffery, MD, Trillium Family Services
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Echo Theater has a strong tradition supporting all persons, ages 1 to 100, to find ways to move, jump, swing and find confidence in their bodies. With classes and camps at its east and west-side locations, Echo Theater teaching philosophy emphasizes support and inclusion as well as bridging generational, cultural and economic differences while celebrating the collective potential of all.
Incentives
$10: A cup of coffee from Fresh Pot
$25: A ticket to an Echo event (dance, circus, etc.)
$50: A t-shirt. We are excited to present t-shirts emblazoned with a design from our mural; a squirrel swinging a chicken on a trapeze. Like wearing the mural on your torso, but not brick-heavy!
$125 one-hour private lesson for four (limited to 10): A private dance and circus skill class taught by one of Echo's talented instructors; one-hour class for four.
$250: With black lettering on a gold plaque, your name (or a name honoring someone) will be placed on one of the permanent theater seats.
$500: A private movie party for 100. Housed in a 1911 building that first hosted silent movies, Echo Theater is a long-standing venue in southeast Portland. We return to that glory, with a screening of a “talkie” film for you and 99 friends; including a pre-movie lecture from a local expert; includes popcorn!
