Exotic Bird Rescue of Oregon
Mission
Our mission is to find a safe, loving home for every bird, and to provide education and support to our community.
Bottom Line for Portland
Parrots and parakeets are almost as popular as cats and dogs, with over 25 pet stores and breeders selling birds in the Portland area, but about 85% of birds purchased are later rehomed or abandoned--often 7+ times! Through a diverse community of volunteers and donors, the Exotic Bird Rescue of Oregon (EBR) takes in and cares for parrots of all sizes, gives them a place to land while matching them with adopters, and equips current and prospective families with knowledge to help companion parrots thrive. We are the oldest nonprofit bird rescue in Oregon, and much of our work happens in the Portland Metro region (206 intakes and 241 adoptions within the past decade alone).
Quote
“We thought we adopted a pet through EBR. What we actually got was a best friend, a soulmate, someone very special who bonded to both of us and loved everybody he met.” - Kendra Terauchi, Beaverton
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
EBR eagerly welcomes volunteers, foster families, and adopters from diverse backgrounds, and we are working to improve our foster and adoption processes to be more inclusive of people who speak English as a second language. Our volunteer base, including several board members and longtime foster homes, come from many different identity communities including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disability, and neurodivergent communities.
