Call to Safety

Mission

Our mission is to end domestic and sexual violence by providing confidential support services and education to empower our community.

Bottom Line for Portland

Call to Safety is celebrating 50 years of serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence. We started as the first crisis line in Oregon, in 1973, supporting survivors. Our services are based in the Portland metro area. Our crisis line takes calls from across Oregon, but all of our one-on-one advocacy services, support groups, and sexual assault medical advocacy are specific to the Portland Metro area. Donating to Call to Safety ensures that we are always there to answer the call when survivors in our community are reaching out for support.

Quote

My Call to Safety Advocate was there for me, like no one in my life had ever been before. She heard about what happened to me and affirmed that it was real and it was serious. She believed in me, in my growth as a person, and helped me understand that I belong in the world. -Anonymous Survivor

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Our core philosophy comes from the belief that all forms of oppression are interconnected, and that to end sexual and domestic violence, we must also acknowledge that survivors experience additional forms of oppression that must also be addressed. Domestic and sexual violence affects people of any gender, and it can happen to anyone; they are complex issues, often with persistent generational cycles. Interpersonal violence is prevalent in our communities and affects all people, regardless of age, culture, sexual identity, ability, race, ethnicity, religion, or socioeconomic status. We have a well trained staff with in-depth knowledge of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and oppression helping us meet all survivors exactly where they are at. We aim to have different identities represented in our board, staff, and volunteers to best serve survivors of diverse backgrounds and identities.
