Black & Beyond the Binary Collective
Mission
Black & Beyond the Binary Collective is dedicated to the healing, liberation, and safety of Black - African transgender, queer, nonbinary, two-spirit, and intersex (TQN2SI+) Oregonians.
Bottom Line for Portland
In a world where anti-Blackness and transphobia are global epidemics that pose increasing daily threats to our community, B3C extends space to heal and grow through community connection and collective understanding rooted in solidly Black, trans-inclusive, queer, intersectional feminist politics. Donating to Black & Beyond the Binary Collective means that Black trans, queer, and disabled individuals can access services designed for them by people that hold similar identities and understand the complexities. This includes political education, housing resources, healing workshops, culturally specific social engagement, and leadership development opportunities. The impact of our work in Portland metro is a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive city by prioritizing those who are the most marginalized in our community.
*Southeast Uplift is acting as our fiscal sponsor to receive donations for us while we are getting our own 501c3 status.
Quote
“When I was in between jobs and experiencing discrimination from an old employer and unable to receive unemployment, B3C had my back and was one of the only chances I had to get help from a community resource. I know other people have had similar experiences with this org and I am grateful to B3C for working so hard to support so many people.”
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We practice diversity, equity, and inclusion by centering Black trans, queer, nonbinary, Two Spirit and Intersex (TQN2SI+) individuals and making space to bring others along with us in our quest for liberation. B3C creates safe spaces where Black TQN2SI+ people can express themselves authentically without fear of judgment or discrimination, where individuals can connect with others who relate to their identities, culture, and journey. We move with the principles of disability justice and work hard to lower barriers to accessing our programs and services. We pace ourselves and our work so that we stay energized and can serve our community long-term. All our work is done by us and for us.
