Mission

To provide a vibrant, inclusive and trauma-informed recovery support center that offers a diverse array of free and accessible resources, supports and services to anyone in or seeking recovery from substance use and mental health disorders.

Through innovative programming — including mutual-aid support meetings, movement-based exercise through The Recovery Gym, Run TRG and Peak Recovery; cooking and arts classes and cultural events; yoga and mindfulness-based meditation; peer-delivered services; free legal services; and and harm reduction work through Project RED — and collaborative work with local and national partners like All Rise, Ben's Friends, Confronting the Storm, Literary Arts, p:ear, Pearl Jam, Wellbriety and many others, the Alano Club offers free, trauma-informed resources, services and supports to anyone in or seeking recovery (however they define it) from substance use and mental health disorders, serving more than 10,000 people monthly. Amid the ongoing substance use and mental health epidemics in Oregon and nationally, the need for centers like ours has never been greater.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Alano Club of Portland is committed to improving the wellness, quality of life, and safety of its employees, partners, and participants. We believe every person and their life is valuable, and deserves the Alano Club of Portland. We acknowledge systemic and structural racism, marginalization of individuals from the LGBTQ+ community, and inequities to resources which create disproportionate mortality rates among people of color, opportunities to improve quality of life, and continued distrust and fear of systems in our society that uphold a culture of white supremacy. 

The Alano Club of Portland is aware of the systemic imperialism within the institution of behavioral health. Hostility and inequities within institutions of behavioral health damage the physical, emotional and mental health of employees of color and individuals from the LGBTQ+ community, contributing to an underrepresentation of the communities of color and LGBTQ+ in the workforce. The Alano Club of Portland values a diverse workforce for achieving cultural competence and for delivering culturally responsive and representative services. The Alano Club of Portland values multiple paths to wellness and recovery, and values diverse perspectives, voices, experiences, and practices to meeting the challenges of the organization and of the people and communities it serves. We aspire to create an anti-racist and equitable organization so we may better support the individuals and families we serve and reduce cultural barriers in the healing process.

Hanif Abdurraqib — Hanif Abdurraqib is an American poet, essayist, and cultural critic. He is the author of 2016 poetry collection The Crown Ain't Worth Much, the 2017 essay collection They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us, the 2019 non-fiction book, Go Ahead in the Rain: Notes on A Tribe Called Quest, the 2019 poetry collection A Fortune for Your Disaster, and the 2021 essay collection A Little Devil in America: Notes in Praise of Black Performance.

Ace Hotel Portland — Set in a historic landmark property, this trendy downtown hotel is a 2-minute walk from Powell's Books and 0.6 miles from the Pearl District. Kaveh Akbar — Kaveh Akbar is an Iranian-born poet, scholar, and the poetry editor for The Nation. He is the author of Pilgrim Bell (Graywolf Press, 2021), Calling a Wolf a Wolf (Alice James Books, September 2017), and the chapbook Portrait of the Alcoholic (Sibling Rivalry Press, January 2017). Pearl Jam — 2020 officially marked 30 years of Pearl Jam performing live. Eleven studio albums, hundreds of unique live performances and official live concert bootleg releases later, the band continues to be critically acclaimed and commercially successful -- with over 85 million albums sold worldwide. Pearl Jam was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Their latest album Gigaton is out now.

The Portland Art Museum — Founded in 1892, the Portland Art Museum is one of the oldest art museums in the United States and the oldest in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to the permanent collection, we hold special exhibitions that bring the world to Oregon and Oregon to the world. Our campus is a cornerstone of the downtown Portland cultural district. It’s currently under construction for the new Rothko Pavilion — an expansion and renovation project to connect our buildings and create a more accessible experience.

Portugal. The Man — Portugal. The Man is an American rock band from Wasilla, Alaska, currently based in Portland, Oregon. Their latest album Chris Black Changed My Life is out now.

Ben Purkert — Ben Purkert is an American poet, novelist, and creative writing instructor. He is the author of the 2018 poetry collection For the Love of Endings and the 2023 novel The Men Can't Be Saved. 

PUSH X PULL — PUSH X PULL is not a coffee shop. It’s also not a coffee roasting company. PUSH X PULL is a feel good, do good place for people to eat, drink, and be. Weston — Since 2012, we at Weston have been building bomber splitboards, skis & snowboards, loving Mother Earth, fostering community, supporting important causes, spreading backcountry education, dirt bagging, slaying pow, and chasing freedom.
