African Youth & Community Organization (AYCO)

New
BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

Our mission is to settle the past, engage the present, and hope for the future. We envision a future where a strong cultural identity within immigrant communities of the Pan African Diaspora is supported by inclusive educational and economic opportunities.

Bottom Line for Portland

Donating to AYCO will improve the livelihoods and wellbeing of East African immigrant and refugee families across the Portland Metro Area. From youth mentorship, athletics, and leadership training to healthcare and disability support, emergency assistance, advocacy, cultural resilience, celebration, and more, AYCO is a multifaceted agency providing holistic and comprehensive family and community support. Donating in this moment is a unique opportunity to make an impact that will last generations as we launch our Dream Center capital campaign and make a place to call home.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

All of our programming has been developed in response to the needs of our community. Our community is the furthest from education, health, employment, and housing justice due to language barriers, poverty, access to technology, race and religion discrimination, disproportionate rates of disability, and difficulty transitioning to life in the United States. Our cultural values inform our methods and help us maintain resilience as we utilize strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches to advocate for our community and eliminate barriers to educational, professional, and personal growth.
